Salvage in Père-Lachaise

Louise Dumorey madame baronne Salvage de Favarolles (1785-1854). D48, junction of Chemin du Tertre and Chemin Delavigne.

An interesting variation on the caryatid theme guarding the door to a large chapel tomb: two sculptures by Vital-Gabriel Dubray of shrouded women (pleureuses), seated, one on either side of the entrance to the chapel tomb, each resting their head on one hand; and two reliefs on the sides of the tomb:

One portrays a young woman in prison with a child pressing against her chest while she gazes at a man who has just broken his chains; the other depicts a young woman ascending heavenward with the help of three angels.
