Auteuil cemetery

A little under two acres Auteuil cemetery was opened in 1800.

World-renowned French director Abel Gance is buried here. The painter Hubert Robert is buried there, as well as Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford, an American physician whose wife, Lavoisier's widow, is buried in Pere-Lachaise, and opera composer Charles Gounod.

Since the cemetery is located off the beaten tourist track, it makes for a refreshingly quiet and peaceful stroll in what almost seems a private sculpture garden. Beyern calls it "un agréable lieu de promenade." And indeed it is.

Directions: Located at 57 rue Claude-Lorrain 75016. The nearest metro stop is Exelmans on the no. 9 line.
