If you knew the next words out of your mouth would be not only your last but would linger for all time to be read and pondered over by generations of strangers to come, what would you say?

Welcome to the "gardens of stone" of Paris!

So much green space packed with stunning outdoor sculptures, where every turn brings you face-to-face with history, art and life! So much history you can't escape from it no matter where you go. And so many "lasting impressions". Yes the people are long gone but their stories, their lives, loves, foibles and "last words" are here for everyone to see and wonder at.

Whether you're a casual tourist out for an afternoon stroll through Pere Lachaise or looking for your favorite Romantic composer (that's Claude tucked away in division 14 of Passy cemetery) or just want to stroll with friends like the Parisians, there's a cemetery for everybody.

Here you'll find directions, maps, practical tips and information of course, as well as online resources, everything to get you started exploring these beautiful and evocative sculpture gardens, free and open to the public nearly every day of the year.

Naturally there are plenty of photos. Just click on any of the cemetery links below to view just a small sample of photos taken in 2006-2007.

So kick back, grab a cup of coffee and start wandering through Parisian history, culture, art and life, all amidst the quiet and peace of some of the world's most famous "gardens of stone".
